On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the meeting hall of Moulay Abdellah Municipality hosted an Environmental Justice Focus Group organized as part of a socio-legal study conducted by the Ibn Rochd Consulting Office within the framework of the project "From Standards to Effectiveness: Advocating for Environmental Justice in the Doukkala Region (El Jadida and Sidi Bennour Provinces) – 2026."

The initiative forms part of a participatory program designed to promote dialogue on environmental issues. It was organized by the Doukkala Non-Governmental Associations Network (RADNG) in partnership with Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF), with the support of the European Union through the DIALOGUE Programme.

The workshop brought together representatives of civil society, elected officials, public institutions, educators, engineers, environmental experts, and other stakeholders concerned with environmental protection and sustainable development.

The discussions provided an opportunity to assess the current state of environmental justice in the Doukkala region, identify key challenges, and formulate practical recommendations aimed at strengthening environmental governance and supporting sustainable development.

Participants emphasized the importance of moving beyond legal standards and environmental regulations toward effective implementation mechanisms capable of guaranteeing the right to a healthy environment, protecting natural resources, and addressing the needs and expectations of local communities.

The workshop also addressed several priority issues, including sustainable natural resource management, ecosystem conservation, environmental awareness, and the role of civil society in advocacy and in shaping environmental public policies.

Participants concluded that environmental justice is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development, as it is closely linked to territorial equity, quality of life, and meaningful citizen participation in decisions affecting the environment and natural resources.
